IN CONVERSATION ARTIST TALK WITH CLAIRE BARCLAY ON THE  WOMANHOUSE PROJECTS IN CASTLEMILK & LOS ANGELES

Garnethill multicultural centre, Glasgow  The talk was apart of a collaborative event between the Glasgow School of Art and the Garnethill multicultural centre held on the 29th of March between 2-5pm.

The talk discussed what the womanhouses projects were, and there impact today in the form of a discussion between Claire Barclay and Jess Pickering. The discussion was supported with archival material courtesy of the California Institute of the Arts and the Glasgow womens Libary.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My practice is inspired by the intersections between feminism, archives, and semiotics, which I translate into visual art through auto-destructive installations, printmaking, and books. Works are often contextualised against archives, oral histories, and statements I’ve collected on the experience of objectification. The intention being, to tackle the constant question of how to work with and against existing systems that determine our portrayal and perception without reinforcing the patriarchy.
